Lifting/Power

Weightlifting (also called Olympic-style weightlifting) is a discipline in which a person attempts to lift a barbell loaded with weight plates as a maximum-weight single lift. In comparison with other strength training, which tests strength limits, (with or without lifting aids) weightlifting tests explosive strength; the lifts are therefore executed faster than other strength movements and with more mobility and a greater range of motion during their execution. Competitions to establish who can lift the heaviest weight have been recorded throughout civilization, with the earliest known competitions dating back as far as ancient Egypt, China and Greece. Today, the modern sport of weightlifting traces its origins to the European competitions of the 19th century.
